The course presents the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in human disease, with a focus on nutrition, lipid and glucose metabolism.

The course will provide the competence to evaluate the consequences of the alteration of the homeostatic mechanisms and their role in disease, with a focus on nutrition, and abnormalities of lipid and glucose metabolism.

The student must have acquired adequate information of Biology, Anatomy, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medical Genetics, Histology and Physiology.

Interactive class, discussion, reading of scientific papers.

The students should show to have gathered the information on the most important pathophysiological processes that cause disease. Ability to apply the gathered information to the study of the mechanism of human disease is expected.

Pathogenetic mechanisms of atherosclerosis, dyslipidemias; nutrient deficiencies; obesity and diabetes. Gender mainstreaming: gender-specific aspects will be discussed for each disease.

Knowledge and understanding of the mechanisms responsible of the main physiopathological processes in human diseases
