The aim of the course is to provide information and knowledge on the possible effects of risks in the workplace and the actions necessary to promote and maintain health in the workplace. Know the principles of prevention, with particular reference to risk assessment and the implementation of prevention and protection measures. Know the methods for collecting work history , identify environmental and occupational risks and possible relationships with other factors associated with health or disease ; investigate the possible effects of occupational risk factors in particular for chronic degenerative diseases. Fundamental aspects of etiological diagnosis in occupational medicine, epidemiology of co-causally work-related diseases, the most frequent occupational diseases and occupational accidents will be discussed. The main tools and methods of analysis and assessment of work risk will be provided: exposure limit values, environmental monitoring ; biological monitoring; health surveillance. Aspects related to in/training on occupational risks, the legislative framework on safety and health in the workplace, primary and secondary prevention of occupational diseases, the role and duties of the competent doctor will also be discussed.

Written test of Safety in the workplace: Multiple choice test, 24 questions. Multiple choice questions, with only one correct answer. Sufficiency score: 14 correct questions. There are no penalties for wrong questions.

At the end of the module the student will be able to know the risks present in the work environment and the related prevention and protection measures, the main occupational diseases and the acts necessary to promote and maintain health in the workplace; know the current regulations on the protection of the health and safety of workers, as well as the main risk factors typical of the health care professional; the student will be able to facilitate the development and maintenance of a safe working environment for the operator and for the care setting.
