The course will provide students with elements of legal medicine useful for practicing the profession.
In particular, the course will pay great attention to the doctor-patient relationship in order to help the student to achieve awareness of being a doctor and of the profound values of the doctor's professionalism. and the importance of placing at the center of the relationship not the disease, but the patients in their specificity as human beings, whatever their gender, their geographical origin or their socio-economic situation.

At the end of the lessons, students will have acquired sufficient knowledge:
- useful for personal identification (forensic genetics and forensic anthropology);
- useful for the management of victims of gender-based violence;
- useful for the management of problems concerning unaccompanied foreign minors;
- useful for the acquisition of consent to health treatments;
- useful for managing the right to privacy;
- useful for dealing with the Judicial Authority;
- useful for managing requests for voluntary termination of pregnancy, medically assisted procreation;
- useful for managing the transplantation of organs from cadaveric and living organisms;
- useful for ascertaining death

At the end of the course the student is expected to have acquired the following skills:
- ability to manage medico-legal issues in the healthcare and insurance fields (INAIL; INPS)
- ability to manage personal identification from a medico-legal point of view ( living and dead body)
- ability to manage victims of gender violence from a medical-legal point of view;
- ability to correctly acquire consent, refusal and revocation of consent in the healthcare sector;
- ability to correctly manage the patient's right to confidentiality;
- ability to correctly manage requests for voluntary termination of pregnancy in relation to the age and capacity of the woman;
- ability to correctly manage requests for medically assisted procreation;
- ability to correctly manage the assessment of death for the purposes of cadaveric organ transplantation;
- ability to correctly manage living organ transplants.

Frontal lectures with slides and individual in-depth analysis on topics proposed during the lessons.Students will be invited during the lessons to reflect on the doctor-patient relationship, on the values of the profession, on ethical issues through open discussion.

Written text (multiple choice quiz and /or open questions).The exam is aimed at assessing the knowledge and understanding of the course contents.The exam will focus on the entire program carried out in class.

- Consent and compulsory medical treatment - Restraint - Right to privacy - Law 194/78 - Law 40/2004 - Organ transplants from living and deceased donors. Cardiac and brain death assessment - Introduction to forensic genetics - Gender-based violence: general principles, epidemiology, healthcare management of patients who are victims of gender-based violence, crimes related to gender-based violence. The in-depth study of this topic is aimed at “Integrating the gender dimension”. Students will be invited to explore the topic individually by reading supplementary material and participating in meetings on the subject held at the University.

In order to achieve the knowledge and skills corresponding to the minimum level of sufficiency, the student is asked to demonstrate:
(KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS):
- know and be able to apply the fundamental principles of forensic medicine, with particular attention to what is fundamental in the healthcare professional / patient relationship (informed consent, patient self-determination, TSO, professional and official secrecy);
- know the problems related to personal identification
- know the problems relating to unaccompanied foreign minors
- know and know how to apply the legislation on termination of pregnancy, medically assisted procreation and organ transplants
