The course focuses on pathophysiology, i.e. the functional changes that are caused by disease. Information will be given on the causes and mechanisms of disease connected to nutrition.

The students should obtain information on the fundamental mechanisms and causes of the disease, in particular those due to gene-environment interaction, with a focus on nutrition.

Basic knowledge of general pathology, biochemistry and molecular biology.

Interactive class, discussion, reading scientific papers.

Written exam with 30 multiple-choice questions on pathophysiology . A minimum score of 18/30 is needed to pass the exam. The students are expected to have acquired adequate information on General Pathology and Pathophysiology and to be able to use this information to analyse the pathophysiological mechanisms of the most frequent human diseases.

1) Pathophysiology of lipid metabolism 2) The causes and biology of cancer 3) Malnutrition. Gender mainstreaming: gender-specific aspects will be discussed for each disease.

The task of this course is to make the students able to understand the cause and the pathogenesis of disease.
