The aim is to provide basic knowledge on growth and psycho-somatic development from birth to adolescence. Fundamental notions regarding the
pediatric nutrition are also provided with examples relating to acute and chronic diseases and syndromes impacting on growth and development

Developmental phases in pediatric age (neonatal/infancy/puberty/adolescence). Auxology, secular trend, growth charts for evaluation of somatic growth. The main causes of short stature. Pubertal development and main developmental issues. Management of rare and chronic diseases. Pediatric nutrition (breast milk, formula, weaning). The emerging problem of obesity in children: prevalence, natural history, essential and secondary obesity, updates in the field of diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
Infectious diseases in pediatric age. Vaccination calendar.

Student has to demonstrate knowledge of covered issues and to use the most suitable techniques taking into account the age and the clinical condition of the child.
