Learning Outcomes
The course aims at providing students with: 1) theoretical awareness (synchronic, diachronic and diatopic) in Spanish phonology, morphology and morphosyntax; 2) a solid knowledge of the phenomena studied from a contrastive point of view (in comparison with Italian); 3) useful means to recognise, define and comprehend said phenomena (understading linguistic and extralinguistic related issues and aspects).
Prerequisites
Students must have passed the exam of SPANISH LANGUAGE TRAINING of the 1st year.
It is also recommended that they have passed the exam of GENERAL LINGUISTICS (1st year). A solid knowledge of linguistic and grammatical analysis of Italian is also required.

Lectures, listening and projection of linguistic documents; case studies analyses with students participation.

Assessment Methods
The acquisition of the course’s theoretical contents and competences will be assessed through a written exam (2 hours), which consists of 4 theorical questions and 1 practical exercise.

In theorical questions, students must prove that they are able to explain, in a concise form (but with congruity and awareness) the required content, citing consistent examples aimed at illustrating the phenomena, and expressing with precise terminology and property of language.
Detailed Syllabus
During the course, several contents of Spanish phonology and morphology will be studied, also from a contrastive perspective (with Italian). Among others:
- Spanish phonetics and phonology;
- phonological phenomena and Spanish diatopic varieties;
- Spanish current orthography;
- personal pronouns (subject);
- atonic personal pronouns (direct and indirect complement);
- definite and indefinite articles;
- deixis and demostrative pronouns and adjectives;
- possessives;
- definite and indefinite quantifiers;
- prepositions (a, por / para);
- uses of ser and estar;
- forms and functions of presente de indicative;
- verbal aspect;
- conditional.
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, students will know: 1) Spanish phonology, morphology and morphosyntax; 2) the fundamentals od contrastive linguistics (Spanish-Italian).
Moreover, they will be able to: 1) recognise standard and diatopic variations in Spanish, also from a contrastive perspective (with Italian); 2) recognise, also starting from concrete examples, the main Spanish phonological and morphological phenomena; 3) make judgements on grammatical aspects of standard and non-standard Spanish also in comparison with standard and non-standard Italian; 4) precisely convey the main linguistic concepts related to Spanish-Italian contrastive analysis; 5) use profitably textbooks and furtther material provided in class or uploaded on DIR.
