Course Contents
Study of the relationship between work and health: occupational diseases, work-related diseases and accidents. Occupational disease -disease models and risk factors in their determinism.
Strategies in prevention in occupational diseases: outline of legislation, tools and figures of prevention, supervisory bodies.
Monitoring of worker exposure: environmental and biological monitoring.
Risk factors relating to the job of laboratory technician: risk assessment and hints of prevention:
chemical and carcinogenic risk, hints of toxicology relating to the main chemical substances
biological risk
manual handling of loads
use VDT
risks related to work organization: mobbing, burn-out and shift work.
Pathologies resulting from exposure to noise.
Collective and individual protective devices

Learning Outcomes
The module aims to allow the learning of the general principles of occupational medicine relating to the main risk factors in the onset of occupational diseases, including prevention and protection measures. Furthermore, the specific risk factors relating to the job of laboratory technician are investigated with the related prevention and protection measures.
Prerequisites
The student must have the essential knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Physics and Chemistry.

Assessment Methods
The exam consists of a written test with multiple choice questions or open questions on the program covered, with the possibility of an oral test in order to improve the grade obtained. Or only oral test
The student must demonstrate that they have assimilated the basic concepts of occupational medicine, the health risks related to the job of laboratory technician and the related prevention and protection measures.
