Italan translations of Don Q.quijote: linguistic analysis

This course aims to provide students with a overwiev of the basic themes and issues in Linguistic and Translation Studies.
It intends to favor, as a second objective, the awareness of linguistic distance (also diachronic),in the analysis of classical works, like Cervantes' Don Quijote
The course aims also to improve Spanish language skills, and refine its use for academic and professional purposes.

An adequate knowledge of the Spanish Language is required (higher level, C1) knowledge of general linguistics and Spanish linguistics

Lectures, seminar lessons with analysis of examples; the theacher will provide exemplary materials on the DIR

Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted
the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination
modalities, concerning academic aspects.

Written examination (two hours): two open-ended questions, aimed at assessing the student's ability to link linguistic data and analytical method; the third question revises the application of the analysis criteria (explained in the classroom) on an example of a (modern) italian translation of the Quijote.
En exam will be evaluated as excellent if it demonstrates: an organic and in-depth view of the issues of translanguaging and linguistics addressed in the course; developed ability to analyze the proposed Spanish text; excellent mastery of specific vocabulary and linguistic concepts; ability to elaborate theoretically through the rich use of relevant examples.
An exam will be evaluated as fair if it demonstrates: only sometimes mechanical knowledge of the subject; appropriate and correct language; the ability to analyze and synthesize; good use of exemplification in relation to a theoretical exposition, considering the different aspects of linguistic diachrony.
An exam will be evaluated as sufficient if it demonstrates: basic knowledge of the program (notions and method), often expounded in a mnemonic form, but with an awareness of linguistic methodology; basic and correct use of terminology; presentation of appropriate examples within the scope of the treatment.
An exam that demonstrates at least one of these traits will be rated as insufficient: major instructional gaps; mislearning of notions/concepts or methodology; inappropriate language; the mere reproduction/listing of notions or definitions, lacking the required conceptual links; lack of orientation within the topic examined; scarcity, absence or incorrect use of examples

1. Cervantes' Don Quijote: linguistic and stylistic traits; 2. Brief history of the main translation problems. 3. Diachrony of the Italian translations of Quixote, from the 17th to the 20th century. 4. Analysis and comparison of translations: ideology and editorial character, linguistic form (lexicon and morphosyntax, linguistic registers, diatopic varieties, culturems).

KNOWLEDGE
- Develop the theoretical knowledge of Translations Studies, and historical Linguistics, becoming familiar with the phenomena of the Iberian context
SKILLS
-To recognize and classify theoretically presented phenomena in the proposed and analyzed documents
- Knowing how to define and illustrate, by means of exemplification, the concepts discussed in class.
- Knowing how to prepare a linguistic analysis autonomously, on new examples, starting from the theoretical basis acquired
TRANSVERSAL SKILLS
- Know how to describe the main phenomena in a clear and circumstantial manner, using the appropriate terminology in an appropriate manner.
- Know how to deepen the topics on the specific manual and on the essays
- Knowing how to perform bibliographic research independently, starting from the suggestions received in class
