The French Language course is divided into two parts: in the first, grammatical topics and morphosyntactic structures of the French language inherent to the A2+/B1 level of the CEFRL will be covered. The second will offer notions of civilization, an introduction to analyse du discours socio-politique et des organisations internationales. Notions related to Français des Affaires will also be provided.

The course has two objectives: on the one hand, the achievement of CEFRL level A2+/B1, and on the other hand, the acquisition of the basics of civilization and specialized language (French socio-political discourse, Français des Affaires).

There are no specific prerequisites for entry. However, a basic knowledge of the French language is desired.

Lectures, language exercises

Non-attending students should make contact with the lecturer at the beginning of the course for guidance and individualized study paths.
Students in the Bachelor of Arts program will be able to agree on an individualized program.

The exam will be divided into two parts: the first will be in written form and will cover the grammatical, morpho-syntactic topics addressed during the language exercises. Passing the written part is a prerequisite for access to the second part (oral test), which will cover the topics related to civilization, analysis of French socio-political discourse and français des affaires.
The written test retains validity for one year from the time it is taken. After that period, the written test will have to be retaken in order to be eligible for the oral test.
The final grade is expressed in thirtieths and consists of the weighted average between the grade obtained in the written part and that obtained in the oral part.
For the oral test, the required skills and knowledge are evaluated as follows:
- sufficient evaluation (from 18 to 23/30) : basic / acceptable knowledge of the content covered during the course; limited / with uncertain French language exposition skills.
- intermediate assessment (from 24 to 27/30) : fair / good knowledge of the contents covered during the course; ability to express oneself in French appropriate to the topics.
- very good / excellent evaluation (from 28 to 30/30 cum laude) : extensive / thorough knowledge of the content covered during the course; articulate / excellent expository ability in French.

For the grammar part : The topics covered by the A2 level of the QCRL: (Présent), Futur simple, l’imparfait, le passé composé Les verbes pronominaux Les gallicismes La comparaison simple Les adjectifs indéfinis (tout / toute / tous / toutes) Les adjectifs numéraux ordinaux Les adjectifs : place et accord Les possessifs : adjectifs et pronoms Les pronoms relatifs simples La mise en relief Les pronoms démonstratifs Le conditionnel de politesse Les pronoms compléments Les pronoms directs, indirects Les pronoms “y” (lieu) et “en” (quantité) La localisation temporelle : exprimer le moment d’une action, la fréquence (souvent, parfois, toujours, etc.) Utiliser quelques prépositions ou adverbes (pendant, pour l’instant), utiliser la conjonction de subordination “quand”. La localisation spatiale : utiliser les prépositions de lieu (situation, direction, provenance) et les adverbes de lieu. At the end of the teaching, the student should demonstrate:
1) to have assimilated the structures of the French language (level A2/B1 of the CEFRL Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
2) to be able to understand and use, through the tools offered, the linguistic structures related to specialty vocabulary (texts on français des affaires and socio-politological texts)
