Course Contents
The English Language teaching course aims to provide the student with the necessary tools to understand and express in written and oral language topics related to daily life, academic pursuits, talk about experiences, habits and desires. The course aims to provide the student with the skills necessary to read and understand simple reports on familiar topics and to write e-mails on subjects of competence, to understand with ease the main points of common information about everyday events normally encountered in the workplace, at school or during leisure time, to ask for and take a job interview for a position in one's field of knowledge, and to describe experiences and events, giving a reason and explanations for one's opinions and plans. The course provides the skills to understand common texts related with social sciences, answering questions about the text and argue one's opinions.

Learning Outcomes
The achievement of language skills will enable students, once in the workplace, whether in Italy or abroad, to communicate effectively in English not only with patients and their families but also with the entire medical team within the clinical unit so that they can provide the best care.

The course is based on lectures, in-class exercises with group correction, and summary sheets for each lesson and topic.

Assessment Methods
The exam consists of two parts. The written component, lasting two hours, requires students to analyze and summarize one of the texts studied in class, focusing on both lexical aspects and content. Students may use a dictionary as needed. The oral component evaluates the student’s communication and presentation skills through a text commentary and a personal presentation. 
Detailed Syllabus
The course is structured in 7 lessons for a total of 24 hours during which it will be examined the main present, past and future tenses, the passive form and indirect speech, modal verbs, adverbs of time and frequency, linking words to express desire, opinion and preference, and specific vocabulary related to the area of study. Scientific texts on the humanities and social sciences will be examined and discussed.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and Understanding: Identify and know the most commonly used specific terms and syntax of specialized scientific English. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding: Read, interpret and summarize a scientific article.
