Course Contents
The course covers the following main topics:
Numbers and Basic Algebra: The real line. The cartesian plane. Curves in the plane.
Plane and Solid Geometry: Areas and volumes.
Basics of Trigonometry: Angles and their measurements.

Any good high school mathematics book is recommended. For instance:

Learning Outcomes
This course is designed to provide or review the fundamental mathematical knowledge necessary to successfully undertake the Mathematics and Statistics course.
Prerequisites
It is particularly recommended for students who have shown deficiencies in the basic mathematics knowledge test, but it is open to all.

Teaching Methods
Lectures consist of screencasts with included quizzes. Material is published on the DIR website, where additional quizzes and a discussion board are also available.

Assessment Methods
Learning will be assessed through a test on the DIR website consisting of 15 questions with 5 answers on the course material. Each correct answer is worth 1 point, while each wrong answer results in a penalty of -1/4 point. A score of 6 points is required to pass the test.

The detailed program includes:
Numbers and Basic Algebra:
Numbers. Decimal representation.
Scientific notation and number of significant digits.
Roots and powers with integer and rational exponent.
The real line. Intervals.
Distance between points and midpoint of a segment.
Simple equations and inequalities.
The absolute value.
The Cartesian plane.
Coordinates of a point.
Equation of the line in the plane.
Circle, ellipse.
Solution of the second degree equation, factorization of y=ax^2+bx+c.
Parabola, vertex and sign.
Hyperbole.
Plane and Solid Geometry:
Areas and volumes (rectangle, trapezoid, cube, cylinder, pyramid, sphere, cone).
Trigonometry and Functions:
Coordinates on the circle, angles and their measurement in degrees and radians.
Cosine and Sine. The number pi.
Elementary table of values of sine and cosine.
Addition and duplication formulas.
Solving triangles with circular functions.
Periodicity. Graphs of sine and cosine.
Tangent function.
Functions: powers, logarithmic and exponentials functions.

Expected Learning Outcomes
We expect the student to be able (in case the logic skills test is also passed) to follow in an efficient way the course of Mathematics and Statistics
