Course Contents
The course will focus on the definition of biotechnological drugs, their preclinical and clinical development, and their application in pharmacotherapy.

Learning Outcomes
The course's objective is to provide an understanding of the development, function, and clinical application of biotechnological drugs. The difference with small chemical molecules will also be highlighted.
Prerequisites
To fully understand the subject, it is necessary to know: - organic chemistry; - molecular biology; - biochemistry; - physiology; - pathology.

Assessment Methods
The exam will take place concurrently with the 5-credit module taught by Professor Miggiano. It will be an oral exam with questions on both modules. Depending on attendance, a pre-selection may be held to access the oral exam with a short multiple-choice written exam.

- Pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of biotechnological drugs (comparison with small molecules); - Preclinical and clinical development of biotechnological drugs; - Biotechnological drugs and advanced therapies in metabolic diseases, dyslipidemias, central nervous system diseases, and a mention of oncological diseases (covered in depth in other courses); - Vaccines; - Cell therapy.
Expected Learning Outcomes
The course aims to provide knowledge on the development and clinical application of biotechnological drugs. It will provide a comprehensive overview of the various types of diseases that can be treated with biotechnological drugs.
