Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the principal histological stainings and knowledge and understanding of the morphological characteristics of the preparations
derived from human and murine tissues
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of cytology and biology
Teaching Methods
Lessons about the use of the microscope and about the principal histological stainings, followed by practical lessons using optical microscope to observe and understand histological sections. microscopic observation of histological sections from various human tissues. Students are involved in the practical lessons to recocgnize histologial tissues
Assessment Methods
Oral exam based on the observation and recognition of histological tissues from histological sections using optical microscope. The exam is a part of the written and oral exam for the corse of Hystology and Embriology
Detailed Syllabus
Knowledge of the principal histological stainings and knowledge about the use of optical microscope. During the practical lessons will be observed hystological sections of human and murine origin that have been already expalined during the lessons of the course of Hystology and Embriology. In detail during the practical lessons will be analyzed:
1) lining epithelia (skin, tongue), glandular epithelia (exocrine glands), tissues of the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, duodenum, intestine), epithelia of the upper and lower respiratory tracts
2) endocrine glands (thyroid, pancreas, liver, adrenal), lymphoid tissue (spleen, thymus, lymph node), blood and bone marrow
3) smooth, striated and cardiac muscle tissue, connective tissue (cartilage), bone tissue and endochondral ossification
4) nervous tissue (cerebellum and nerve fibers), testicles and ovary
Expected Learning Outcomes
Ability of using the microscope, ability of understanting and to define different tissues
