Course Contents
Elements of Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine aimed at the basic practice of the medical discipline and knowledge of the skills of the specialty in general.

- lecture notes and texts relating to the most represented disciplines in the rehabilitation field: orthopedic pathology, neurological pathology and oncology.
Learning Outcomes
Provide the student with the basic elements of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine to identify patients with rehabilitation indications and for the correct outpatient management.
Prerequisites
The required prerequisites
are: knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, knowledge of the pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, the nervous system and the oncology clinic. This knowledge is aimed at a better understanding of the rehabilitation indications and treatment paths.
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons and frontal internship.
Assessment Methods
Written exam on the topics presented during the lessons. The exam is on average made up of 30 multiple choice questions with a defined time of about 40-45 minutes and the possibility of choosing between 4 answers.
Detailed Syllabus
- Generalities of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine: historical data on the development of the discipline, definition, organizational methods, operators and management paths. Knowledge of how to use the most common orthotic aids and prostheses to be used in daily clinical life.
- Rehabilitation in rachialgia: therapeutic diagnostic paths, physical examination, medical and rehabilitative treatment according to recent national and international guidelines.
- Rehabilitation in the outcomes of Stroke: assessment of rehabilitation needs, rehabilitation paths and discharge strategies. The integrated treatment of spasticity according to the most recent international guidelines.
- Osteoporosis and fragility fractures: therapeutic diagnostic paths, physical examination, medical and rehabilitation treatment in accordance with recent national and international guidelines.
- Rehabilitation in oncological pathologies: rehabilitation indications in disabilities of primary and diatrogenic oncological origin. The rehabilitation and orthotic treatment of bone secondary artery.
Expected Learning Outcomes
The student will know the basics of Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine and the application and practical methods of the discipline in the context of the daily clinical activity common to every graduate in medicine and surgery. He must be able to seek specialist advice in an informed and appropriate manner. He will be able to assess the most common disabilities.
