The course aims at providing the fundamental physics aspects of the Computed Tomography Scanners
Reference Texts
1. P. Russo Handbook of X-Ray Imaging Physics and technology- 2018CRC Press
2. Report Associazione Italiana di Fisica Medica: TOMOGRAFIA COMPUTERIZZATA: DESCRIZIONE E MISURA DEI PARAMETRI CARATTERISTICI
Learning Outcomes
The course is providedin 10 hours of frontal lessons with final examination. It will cover the aspects related to the technological evolution of the CT scanners, the dose to the patient and the optimization of the protocol of CT acquisition, based on clinical indications. The role and the responsibilities of the radiographer will be illustrated The main tools in the optimization of acquisition and reconstruction such as the tube current modulation and the iterative reconstruction algorithms will be covered as well as the implementation of a program of quality control on CT scanners.
Prerequisites
Basic course in Physics. Knowledge of the basic dosimetric quantities (dose, effective dose)
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons with electronic presentations provided to the students
Assessment Methods
Oral examination. To pass the examination a basic knowledge and understanding of the topics covered during the lessons is required.
