Learning Outcomes
The 3 integrated modules aim at providing knowledge and competences about physical, technical and clinical use of radiotherapy equipment in relation to tumour and patient cheracteristics. The student will learn should understand the rationale, the use of quality assurance checks in the various clinical settings.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of physics, biology, general pathology, radiobiology, basic concepts of radiation oncology
Teaching Methods
Teaching lessons by using powerpoint presentations and discussion in classroom. Simulation of multiple choice tests. Material on moodle platform.
Additional Information
Additional information will be provided during the clerkship in the radiotherapy department with practical training on the treatment machines. Further information can be requested by contacting the teachers directly in the classroom or by email.
Assessment Methods
At the end of the course 3 modules is provided for the final evaluation.
For clinical radiotherapy, 30 multiple choice tests (only one answer is right). Minimum score to pass the exam is 18/30.
For techniques of external radiotherapy and brachytherapy, 30 multiple choice tests (only one answer is right). Minimum score to pass the exam is 18/30.
For special techniques and treatment planning systems, an oral examination is provided, and the student has to demonstrate to know the basis of the special techniques and their application in the planning of radiotherapy.
The mean of the 3 modules gives the final score. In case of 3 score of 30/30 the final approval is “cum laude”.
Detailed Syllabus
See modules.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and skills about radiotherapy techniques with special regard to the principles of clinical radiotherapy and to the physical basis of special techniques.
Ability to apply knowledge and skill in the professional field of interest.
