Course Contents
Promote in students the knowledge about psychic functioning in order to
develop basic skills for the recognition of psychological variables that
they co-determine educational phenomena.
In the first part of the course the history of psychology as a scientific discipline will be presented,
the main psychological currents and methods of study and research in psychology. In the second
part will be deepened the study of cognitive and affective processes according to the perspective of
general psychology and cognitive neuroscience. specifically perception, attention, memory, language. the verbal and non-verbal communication part, the help relationship, the emotions and thus arrive at the concept of health and disease and the bornout of the operator.

Learning Outcomes
Acquire the theoretical reference models that explain the different cognitive functions treated by general psychology. Allow the understanding of cognitive functioning, through reference models. Make the student competent in the argumentation of reference models and theories, through the adoption of scientific notions and terminology.
Prerequisites
No specific scientific or psychological knowledge is required beyond that provided by any high school.

Introduction to psychology and research methods: the historical basis of birth will be presented
of psychology as a scientific discipline and the main approaches to the study of psychology will be illustrated
psychology. The research methodologies of experimental psychology will also be presented
and cognitive neuroscience.
2) Brain and behavior: Introduction of the basic elements to understand how it works
of our brain and how all of this knowledge has influenced the study of behavior
in psychology.
3) Sensation and perception: Presentation of the main theoretical models for the study of sensation
and perception; Insight into the mechanisms involved in sensation and perception
to understand how information from the environment is analyzed to organize life
knowledge.
4) Attention: Presentation of the main theoretical models and mechanisms involved in the process
selection of information in the environment for subsequent processing.
5) Memory: analysis of the main theoretical models (memory systems) and study of the mechanisms
processing, storage and retrieval of stored information that allow you to
remember experiences and bring them to mind according to our behaviors.
6) Language: analysis of the main theoretical models and study of the functions of language which
enable communication and knowledge sharing.
