Learning Outcomes
The main objective of the course is to acquire knowledge about orthopedic and neurologic physical assessment (observation, instruments, and outcome measure) and treatments of the musculoskeletal disorders, soft-tissue injuries, and neurological diseases from a evidence-based point of view.
Where necessary, the concepts will be integrated with basic concepts regarding the construction of a therapeutic exercise program. They also aim at developing teamwork skills.
At the end of the course the student is expected to be able:
- to know the main tools, tests, questionnaire, and outcome measures for checking the effectiveness of the treatment;
- to be able to perform a thorough assessment of a patient with musculoskeletal disorders, acute injuries, and neurological diseases; know how to apply the learned techniques;
- to acquire cross-competences such as communicative skills, autonomy in clinical reasoning, synthesis skills, and re-elaboration of information and knowledge coming from different sources.
Prerequisites
Anatomy, biomechanics, physiology of therapeutic exercise are needed to understand the topics discussed in the course. There are no constraints on propedeuticity.
Teaching Methods
The objectives will be achieved through frontal lessons and practice. Lessons are supported by slides projection. At the request of the students, the teacher can devote the first part of each lesson to clarification and insights on the topics discussed in the previous lessons. You can also ask for clarifications on specific points during the lesson. Class attendance is strongly recommended.
Additional Information
The teacher receives by appointment, upon request by e-mail.
Assessment Methods
The exam will take place in writing, formulated to verify the expected learning outcomes. The final vote will be determined by the degree of acquisition of the knowledge and skills expected, taking into account also the ability of synthesis and analysis; mastery of scientific language and clinical reasoning skills. To pass the exam, the student must have a minimum of 18/30 (eighteen) scores
