The course covers the understanding and teaching of major mental illnesses (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder) and minor disorders (anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance use and abuse, personality disorders, disorders of the extremes of life). Notions are also provided on how the relationship is important in relating to patients suffering from psychiatric illnesses within the health profession

The objectives of the course are:
- to know the psychic functions both as single entities and as a complex set of activities from which subjective experiences arise and the relationship life of the human being.
- to learn the main pathological changes of the aforesaid functions and their reflection on behavior, knowing how to recognize and research the manifestations through the semiological techniques peculiar to psychiatry.
- be able to orientate themselves in the nosography of psychic disorders by learning to recognize the main psychiatric syndromes, indicating their preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitation guidelines.
- demonstrate that they are able to recognize situations of psychological distress in general medicine and to be able to operate correctly.
