Learning Outcomes
Good Manufacturing Practices published inside the Italian Official Pharmacopoeia (XII Edition) give national rules for preparation of medicines in the pharmacy. During the lessons the students will be instructed about the standards for assuring that compounded products are sterile at the time of dispensing, after preparation in an hospital pharmacy. The following topics will be described: sterile compounding and aseptic technique, safety in sterile compounding, antibiotics prophylaxis, analgesia infusions, artificial nutrition, chemotherapy. The role of clinical pharmacist and of the laboratory technician will be developed, in order to well position the evolution of the clinical pharmacy in the italian contest.
Prerequisites
The student must have basic knowledge of Pharmacology.

Assessment Methods
Written exam consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions. For each question with the correct answer, a score of 1.5 points is awarded.
Detailed Syllabus
Italian Official Pharmacopoeia (XII Edition) and Good Manufacturing Practices in Hospital Pharmacy. Sterile compounding and aseptic technique. Safety in sterile compounding and devices for the individual protections inside the Laboratory of an Hospital Pharmacy. National Classification of the medical devices used in the compounding. Galenic drugs, antibiotics prophylaxis, preparation of compounded sterile analgesia infusions, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the principles of the activity and the procedures that a laboratory technician must have to well work in an Hospital Pharmacy.
