General description of the Internet (elements, protocols) with particular reference to the World Wide Web -web pages, hypertexts and links, html language - use of browsers (navigation bases) -Software equipment for internet research - ways to search the internet (direct navigation with the site address, browse for., explore a subject directory, deep Web, mailing list or newsgroup, search engines) - search engines and metasearch engines: definitions, components, identification of the elements to be searched, boolean and proximity operators - strategy for a more efficient navigation with search engines, how to choose between the various search services (subject dir vs engines vs deep web) - scientific databases (with particular reference to Pubmed): research and consultation, bibliographic research, research of structures, proteins, genes, hereditary diseases, use of the bookshelf. How to save a literature search in Medline - reliability and evaluation of sources: elements (purpose, source, style, contents, links) with which to evaluate a research carried out -copyright: Berne convention, how to write and read a copyright, duration of a copyright, software copyright, internet and copyright, links (surface, deep and framing), disclaimer, fair use, how to report data from scientific articles - citations: how to cite a bibliographic source; meanings of the bibliography in the thesis and in scientific journals

Learning Outcomes
The Research Methodology module aims to teach students the main methods of research on the Internet aimed at recovering scientific material useful for the preparation of the degree thesis. Furthermore, the student will learn how to evaluate the identified sources, how to cite the material used and how to report the information or any contents without infringing copyright.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of using an internet browser and software to read PDF files
Teaching Methods
Presentations in MS-PowerPoint format and research simulations of scientific material by consulting websites
Additional Information
The entire course is held in the computer room. In this way the student will be able to immediately experience the skills acquired during the lesson.
Assessment Methods
The exam consists of an oral test in order to verify the effective understanding of the theoretical notions taught in class. The student must also be able to expose and argue the content of a scientific publication that is the subject of a bibliographic search that will be conducted independently during the course of the lessons which will also be evaluated by the teacher. In order to obtain a sufficient assessment useful for passing the exam, the student must demonstrate that they have understood the fundamentals of the theoretical notions taught in class. Furthermore, the student must have acquired the ability to express themselves in a clear and understandable way using an appropriate vocabulary.

Expected Learning Outcomes
According to the Dublin descriptors D1- KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: The student will know and understand the main methods of research on the Internet aimed at recovering scientific material useful for the preparation of the degree thesis. Furthermore, the student will learn how to evaluate the identified sources, how to cite the material used and how to report the information or any contents without infringing copyright. The student will learn to express himself through appropriate scientific terminology. D2-ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: The student will demonstrate to be able to apply the knowledge acquired during the course in order to independently conduct a bibliographic research aimed at the selection of scientific publications useful for the drafting of a written paper. D3-AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT: The student will acquire a wealth of knowledge that will allow him to read scientific literature independently and critically. The student will acquire autonomy of judgment in the selection of the relevant scientific literature for the purposes of the activity that will be carried out. D4-COMMUNICATION SKILLS: The student will acquire the ability to disseminate the assimilated knowledge using a specific and appropriate vocabulary in order to be able to confront in a professional and competent manner in the academic and subsequently work environment. In addition, the student will acquire the ability to transmit the assimilated knowledge in a clear and understandable way even to a general public. D5-LEARNING SKILLS: The student will acquire the ability to examine and interpret scientific texts independently and critically by expanding his cultural background and going beyond what has been taught. The student will acquire a work tool that will allow him to implement his knowledge and skills.
