Learning Outcomes
Objective A: solid learning of Latin morphology. Objective B: essential knowledge of the genres and problems of Latin literature and its authors up until the Augustan age. Objective C: awareness of the didactic aims of studying Latin in relation to the teaching of Italian in secondary schools.
Prerequisites
A previous knowledge of Latin is NOT required as this exam can ONLY be taken by those who can prove to be in possession of a high school diploma in which Latin is NOT studied.
Teaching Methods
Class, mentoring, e-learning
Additional Information
It integrates with the INTRODUCTION TO THE GREEK CIVILIZATION module to form the integrated examination of INTRODUCTION TO CLASSICAL LITERARY CIVILIZATIONS.
Assessment Methods
The exam consists of a written Latin test (60% of the final grade - objective A) and a literature oral exam (40% of the final grade - objectives B and C).

The written test, lasting a total of 3 hours, consists of:
- a grammar test (without dictionary), lasting 1h
- a version from Latin to Italian (with dictionary), lasting 2h.

To pass the test it is necessary to have obtained the sufficiency (18/30) in both parts.

This overall written test, however, can be replaced by the three in itinere tests that will be held during class hours. The students who will have supported all three, reporting an average equal to or greater than 18/30 will be directly admitted to the oral exam. Even those who had taken the two tests with an average between 16 and 18/30 will not have to repeat the script, but will bring a grammar supplement (agreed with the teacher) directly to the oral exam.
It is not possible to support the oral literature before passing the written test.

In the case of particularly brilliant exams the honors will be awarded according to the following criteria: (i) average of the papers equal to or greater than 28/30; (ii) constant commitment in the performance of the assigned exercises; (iii) ability to move critically within the studied literary landscape.

Students who have taken part in at least 75% of the lessons will be considered attending. Non-attending students must take a program supplement to the exam.
