To know the theological-philosophical premises underlying certain experiments in the architectural field in 12th-13th century France as the origin of Gothic art before its widespread diffusion in Europe. - Objectives - Study skills: To be able to face, on the basis of the knowledge acquired during the lessons, the evaluation (reading and decoding) of an artistic or architectural context of the medieval age. Oral exam, lasting a minimum of forty minutes, aimed at verifying the achievement of the learning objectives through: 1. recognition of the images in the chosen textbook; 2. descriptive capacity 3. ability to relate the works to the cultural/artistic/architectural contexts of the reference period; 4. knowledge of the figurative and representative codes; 5. possession of the discipline's specific terminology. For the monographic part: 1. knowledge of the main exemples of romanesque sculpture in north-western Italy 2. ability to trace the characteristic elements of the various regional areas; 3. ability to relate the building and decorative events of certain contexts to what is described in any sources that have come down to us; 4. possession of the specific terminology of the discipline. Being able to place in the correct cultural and geographical context the romanesque sculpture in north-western Italy during the 11th and 12th centuries (60% of the overall assessment). 2 - To be able to concisely but comprehensively illustrate the salient features and contents of a historical artistic or architectural artefact of the Middle Ages. Be familiar with documentary sources, starting with the oldest ones, and be able to interpret them in the light of monumental evidence preserved today. (40% of the overall assessment).
