The DIR service will provide detailed programs, instructions for the obligatory work, examples of written tests, and exercise sheets.

Written test ( 3 hours) and oral test ( 20 minutes) on separate days.
The written test (marked out of 30) is a test consisting of 120 marks. The test is about morphology/phonology and presents closed-ended questions (3/4 of the test) including analysis (1/4 of the test) of a corpus from the musical "Notre Dame de Paris" and/or another text analyzed during the course. Each question corresponds to a 1/4 point. The written test verifies knowledge and understanding: 1, 2,3.; the ability to apply knowledge and understanding :1,2.; The minimum grade to pass the written test and enter the oral test is 18/30.
For the Bachelor's degree in Modern Foreign Languages, the oral test (marked out of 30) is about the critical reading of chapters 1 and 5 of H. Walter's essay "Le français dans tous les sens" (see bibliography) and theoretical issues dealt with during the course (substrat gaulois, superstrat francique, etc.). The oral test gives for the ability to apply knowledge and understanding: 3; expression of personal point of view: 1; communication skills: 1, 2.
For students with a master's degree in Languages and Cultures Tourism (LM49), the oral test focuses on the critical reading of D. Hatuelle's textbook, "Tourisme en Action." The students will be required to prove that they can read, comment and translate into Italian 30 worksheets of their choice (v. ability to apply knowledge and understanding: 3; personal point of view: 1.; communication skills: 1, 2).
One individual assignment will be given during the course (v. study skills:1, 3, 4), which is mandatory for the oral test. The final mark is the average of the written and oral tests. The oral examination will be graded as follows: 18 to 21 for a paper demonstrating only sufficient for the identified objectives; 22 to 25 for a paper demonstrating fair achievement of the identified objectives; 26 to 28 for a paper demonstrating good achievement relative to the identified objectives; 29 to 30 for a paper demonstrating excellent achievement; while 30 (e Lode) means excellent proficiency in all identified areas.
Detailed information regarding the tests, material about the various activities, exercises to be done, examples and corrections of written tests, as well as weekly class registers will be available on DIR.
The grade of the written test and the final grade (the sum of the grade of the written test and the grade of the oral test) will be communicated through the online platform "Esse3 - Computer Services". The final grade of French Linguistics A, for students registered in LSM and LCT, is part of the integrated exam of French Language II.

After a presentation of the French vocabulary from a diachronic approach (substrat gaulois, superstrat francique, adstrats, etc.), the course will focus, in a first didactic session, on the morphological mechanisms at work in the creation of the French lexicon; in a second sequence, on the presentation of various phonological and semantic phenomena. The following main morphological phenomena will be examined: doublets, which demonstrate the coexistence of a popular and learned process of formation; antonomasia; compound word construction and of Greco-Latin origin, including hybrid forms; and derivation (préfixation, suffixation, dérivés parasynthétiques, nominalization à suffixe zéro, verbes factitifs et fréquentatifs). The morphological description will be followed by a reflection on the phenomena of homography, homophony, homonymy, and paronomasia, with an application in the “jeux de mots” field and the advertising slogan. Finally, "faux-amis" (French - Italian) will be examined. The illustrative corpus, which will accompany each teaching sequence, consists of songs from the musical "Notre Dame de Paris" (Luc Palodon and R. Cocciante) based on Victor Hugo's novel of the same name, as well as sequences from various musical and film adaptations of the novel. Exercises of various kinds (translations, etymological research on the Trésor de la Langue Française Informatisée (ATILF), vocabulary worksheets, creative writing) are planned as part of the course.

- Be aware of the morphological mechanisms at work in the creation of the French lexicon, both in a diachronic and synchronic approach. Recognize and be able to explain lexical derivation and composition.
- Apply acquired knowledge in both written production (mastery of spelling) and oral production (correct pronunciation), as well as in the individual analysis of corpora of various kinds, written and oral.
- Enrich vocabulary.
- Read productively the indicated essay, identifying and explaining in the oral evidence the chosen key concepts.
- Use DIR consistently and independently.
- Learn to carry out lexicological research on the Trésor de la Langue Française Informatisée (ATILF).
