Il corso ha nei confronti degli studenti frequentanti due obiettivi ben definiti:
1. Ricostruire i tentativi che vennero operati – soprattutto a partire dalla seconda metà dell’Ottocento . per giungere a formulazioni il più possibile compiute sulla cosiddetta “previsione dei fatti sociali”.
2. Giungere, parallelamente, alla ricostruzione delle teorie che dibattevano, nel corso del XIX, secolo dell’evoluzione della società: una con una impostazione ottimistica, una seconda con tono fortemente pessimista, la terza ponendosi come mediana tra le prime due.
Dato che questi due punti non potranno essere affrontati unicamente entro le cerchia delle discipline sociali, si farà ampio ricorso al supporto delle diverse correnti filosofiche e storiche.

The Purpose of this Teaching is to provide the attending Students essential Coordinates to understand the multidisciplinary weaves that characterize the Subject imparted. In this Sense we will try to demonstrate with significant Examples – that may constitute an Acquisition also for the Future – how and to what Extent can be fruitful the Relationships between the several Branches of Knowledge.

What is required of the Attendants is simply the Willingness to deal with the Fundamentals of social, philosophical, historical Subjects, as well as the Desire to interact with the Teacher,

Metodology will consist – mostly – in a Series of Lectures, alternated by Readings of Significant Pieces by the Students, with the Aim of making them better understand Authors and Topics as they are dealt with.
Attendance is highly recommended.

The Modalities of Verification of the Programme carried out will consist of an oral Examination. It will aim – far beyond the Acquisition of mere notional Data - the Verification on one Hand of a correct Methodology by the Pupils, the Possession of the most relevant conceptual Sets on the other Hand.

The Course basically aims at two Purposes:
1. To outline the Attempts that were made – particularly from the second Half of the nineteenth Century - to arrive at the most reliable Processing of the so-called “prediction of social Facts”.
2. Arrive, at the same Time, to reconstruct the theoretical Currents that discussed - always during the nineteenth Century – of the Evolution of Society.
a.The first with an optimistic Insight.
b. The second bearer of a strong Pessimism.
c. The third with an intermediate Position compared to the others.
It is clear that since it is not conceivable to deal with these two Points within the single Framework of social Disciplines, it will be used – in a wide Way – the Help of the different philosophical and historical Currents.

At the End of the Course the Teacher expects Students to be able to decline the main Coordinates of the Hypothesis concerning the “Prediction of social Facts”, as well as to recognize the Basis of the three Theories – optimistic, pessimistic, intermediate – on the Development of human Society.
