Organizing and planning itineraries. Geography of tourism and transport. Topic of cartography.

Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide students with the basic knowledge necessary to:
- learn the characteristics of the main transport and tourist services;
- create tourist itinerary.
At the end, the student:
- organizes and chooses the most appropriate transport methods in relation to the type of travel and tourist;
- creates an itinerary;
- knows the types of itineraries;
- analyses the characteristics of tourism tipologies and design a route for each one.

Teaching Methods
The teaching will be conducted through lectures, held by the teacher or by experts, and through exercises and group discussions.

Assessment Methods
The final exam consists of two parts:
- Written exam, in Italian and will focus on all the material mentioned in the "Material" session, on Moodle page of the course. The open questions aim to understand the basic concepts presented during the course and to know the student’s critical skills.
- Presentation of a group or individual project, optional. The project must be prepared in teams of at least 2 and not more than 4 components. The students must deliver the group project by the date established by the teacher.
The grade obtained is unique and it will be the weighted average of the grades obtained in the project work (1/3) and in the written exam (2/3).
Detailed Syllabus
The course is divided into two-hour lessons and it is divided into two modules:
The first (itineraries):
- definition and typologies
- the link between planning an itinerary
- development policies in Europe: the cultural itineraries of the Council of Europe
- study cases of new itineraries.
The second one (logistic):
- transport and tourism;
- the tourist demand of transport;
- the types of transport (cruise, air, rail) and their interconnection.
- accessible tourism.

Expected Learning Outcomes
Through a written test, the student has:
the knowledges on:
- the national and internation system of transport;
- the characteristics of the transport demand
- how to build a tourist itinerary;
- itineraries for typology
the transversal skills on:
- how to build an itinerary in relation to the target of demand;
- how to link the various types of transport;
- how to analyse an itinerary
- to reflect and to have independence of judgment on issues related to the construction of an itinerary and to the choice the most appropriate type of transport in relation to journey.
