The course will analyse the common law legal family, dealing particularly with the United States legal system. It will explore especially the United States Constitutional structure in connection with specific topics.

The course aims at equipping the students for the understanding of the basic common law legal arrangements, therefore giving them the necessary tools to work in an international legal setting.

1) Having passed the compartive law legal systems exam
2) a level B2 knowledge of english

The ex cathedra approach will be melt with an active participation in class by the student , who will write two brief essays

Attending students are requested to contact the teacher at least one week before the course starts.
Teaching materials for attending students are to be found on the website of the course.
Students with BES/DSA can contact me during class or via e-mail in order to arrange the modality of the exam.

Students are required to participate in class and be evaluated upon their comments and upon two papers that they are requested to write, in english, at the end of the course.

The course will start with an historically introduction of the common law family. Classes will then concentrate on the present United States legal system, analyzing its peculiarty both against the british and the cilvil law system. Special attention will be dedicated to some specific legal issues that could be of particular interest.
