Disciplinary study on the meaning of nursing care

At the end of the course the student will be able to:
Understand the relationship between science and method in the nursing discipline.

Critically analyze the clinical method by comparing it with the nursing process

To decline the relationship between science and method in: clinical practice, training, research and organization/management;
Describe 'emerging' methodological issues in research and practice related to outcomes;
To debate the conceptual meaning of the Nursing Minimum Data Set and to decline its implications in practice, research, management and clinic;
To discuss the conceptual meaning of the Fundamentals of Care and to articulate its implications

Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted
the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination
modalities, concerning academic aspects.

The final learning test will cover the following teaching activities: 1) Ethics and philosophy of science 2) Disciplinary insights in the nursing field 3) Theory and philosophy of nursing sciences 4) Theory and philosophy of obstetric sciences.

The exam will consist of an oral test in which the student's ability to apply the knowledge acquired during the course will be assessed, through:
- the explanation of philosophical and ethical contents of the nursing and obstetric professions
- the examination of an emblematic nursing and obstetric case and the application of clinical reasoning
- the explanation of contents related to advanced nursing skills
The oral test will be considered passed if the candidate has demonstrated sufficient knowledge of the theoretical concepts contained in the course and sufficient clinical reasoning ability with respect to the proposed cases.
To achieve a score of 30/30 with honors, the student must demonstrate that he/she has acquired excellent knowledge of all the topics covered during the course.

Nursing process and clinical method in nursing;
• Reasons that have put the nursing diagnosis system in crisis;
• Clinical reasoning of the novice, expert, or nurse with advanced skills

The student will be able to apply clinical reasoning to an emblematic nursing case
