Learning Outcomes
To know the main pathologies main pathologies of orthopedic interest and the corresponding rehabilitative issues.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of Hystology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology and Radiology.
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons with slide presentation.
Assessment Methods
Written examination with multiple choice quizzes that may concern all the topics included in the educational program with a prevalent focus on the topics covered in the lectures.
The number of correct answers will contribute to formulating the mark out of thirty proposed, resulting from the final evaluation shared by the teachers of the individual modules.
Detailed Syllabus
Elements of bone histo-physiology and osteogenesis. Congenital malformations and diseases (CHD, clubfoot, congenital torticollis). Developmental disorders (scoliosis, osteochondrosis, slipped capital femoral epiphysis). Infectious disease of bone and joints. Primitive and secondary tumors of the skeleton. Bone diseases (osteoporosis, rickets and osteomalacia, Paget). Joint diseases (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis). Avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Herniated cervical and lumbar disc. Myotendinous pathologies (shoulder, overload tendinopathies, Achilles tendon). Arguments of hand surgery (upper limb canalicular syndromes, Dupuytren, Volkmann). Biomaterials in Orthopedics.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the main diseases of the locomotor system, ability in understanding clinical-functional findings, instrumental exams and medical prescriptions, in order to set up and manage an adequate rehabilitation program.
