The present course will be focused on cardiovascular physiology and linfatic system, respiratory system, renal and digestive system

Learning Outcomes
The course is targeted to provide students with a deep knowledge of all the systems involved in the control of body’s homeostasis.

Good knowledge of Anatomy and General Physiology

Frontal lessons with slides available to all the students as integrative support. Interactions through possible questions to get curious the students towards the physiological topics

Assessment Methods
The exam is only an oral test composed by 5 questions concerning the topics of the course. The exam aims to verify the global knowledge level of the treated arguments and to define the rationale and critical capabilities in dealing with the subject. The full comprehension of the physiological topics is determinant for passing the exam. It is required to answer to 3 over 5 questions to obtain the minimal graduation (18 /30). The laude will be given just in case of critical, analytical and logical discussion of each question
Detailed Syllabus
Cardiovascular system. The heart. Sistemic and pulmonary circulation. Respiratory system. The lung. Respiratory gas exchange. Renal system. Role of the kidneys in the control of water turnover, electrolyte balance, pH control. Digestive system. Treatment of macronutrients and their absorption. Endocrine glands and their regulatory role. The nervous system (this last will be deepened in Neurophysiology course).
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and comprehension skills: acquisition of basic topics of systemic physiology and basic physiological mechanisms of organ physiology. Use of an appropriate scientific language. Acquisition of anatomical and functional characteristics of living systems, control mechanisms in physiological systems. It’s expected a synthesis ability and moreover the ability to explain physiological mechanisms
Knowledge and applied comprehension skills: ability to identify the main requirements to develop a project; ability to explain and interpret proposed physiological experiments. Problem and quiz solving concerning physiological topics.
. The course promotes the development of a cross-talking between the main biological disciplines designed to understand the topics. Students' involvement in improving the course is an essential element of growth and training not only for students but also for teacher.
