The course aims to transmit the knowledge of the general Italian and European legislation and of the specific legislation useful in the various professional fields of the Biologist. The discussion of the different types of legislative measures is developed, so that students understand their meaning and their application. The meaning of ethics and the code of ethics in the professional field and the specific legislation governing the profession of biologist are discussed so that students can acquire knowledge and act according to the code of ethics and the profession.

The italian “Codice Civile”. The italian “Codice Penale”. The contents of the course are developed through the slides that are made available to students in the manner provided.

The educational objective of the Legislation and Professional Ethics Course is to develop relevant knowledge of Italian and European legislation with reference particular to professional legislation and to acquire knowledge and understanding of the Professional Code of Ethics. Article 8 TFEU gives the European Union the task of eliminating inequalities and promoting equality between men and women in all its activities. This concept is also known as "gender mainstreaming", integration of the gender dimension and will be will be carried out during the Course.

Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination modalities, concerning academic aspects. Any changes will be communicated during the course and published onlinethrough the envisaged institutional forms.

Oral exams at the end of the course. The exam lasts about 30 minutes, begins with the discussion of a topic chosen by the candidate, carried out in class and deepened by the student, continues with a number of questions - from two to three - posed by the teacher. To achieve sufficiency the student must demonstrate knowledge, understanding and adequacy of the meaning of the terms used in the answers. The final mark expressed out of thirty is determined by the level of depth of the answers and by the connections that the student will be able to build. The ability to discursively organize the knowledge of the contents, the ability to reason critically on the study carried out, the quality of the exposure, will be assessed in order to establish the grade,
proficiency in the use of the specialized vocabulary that the student will use during the exam. The possible placement of partial examination in progress and in a pre-appeal will be assessed in accordance with the regulations in force

The sources of Law, the Italian Constitution, constitutional laws and ordinary laws, legislative decrees, law decrees, DPCM, regulations; regional laws and decrees. Meaning of illicit, illegitimate, fault, willful misconduct.

• The European Union: meaning of Regulations and Directives, with particular regard to the health, agri-food and environmental sectors. The transposition of the Directives.

• The law establishing the profession of Biologist (Law 396/67) and the institution of the figure of the Junior Biologist (DPR 328/2001).

• The rules of the Civil Code and the rules of the Criminal Code that affect the profession of Biologist. The meaning of illicit, illegitimate, fault, willful misconduct.

• Professional fields and sectors of operation of the Biologist, the relative legislation.

• The ethics of the intellectual professions. The Biologist's Code of Ethics, the general principles.

• The Biologist in the Laboratory, the different types of analysis and the granting of Authorizations, Accreditations and Certifications.

• The Qualification Exam for professional practice, access requirements, characteristics of the exam and type of tests.

At the end of the course in order to achieve the knowledge and skills corresponding to the minimum level of
sufficiency, the student will be asked to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the articles and laws of the Italian Constitution and the Legal System developed in class, be able to identify if a rule refers to the Administrative, Civil or Penal Code, know how to apply the knowledge to identify a norm referring to the professional legislation of the biologist, to be able to read, understand
and comment on the rules of the deontological code of biologists.
