Learning Outcomes
Mastery of concepts, physical laws and methods of classical physics for what concerns the fields of classical mechanics, thermodynamics and fluid dynamics. Stimulate the acquisition of ability to relate to the methods of solving numerical exercises performed and theoretical aspects and to the acquisition of appropriate scientific language.
Prerequisites
Possessing the notions of Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry and the infinitesimal calculus elements of higher education.
Teaching Methods
The course is based on front lectures in the classroom that will cover both the theoretical introduction of the program topics and the resolution of exercises carried out by the students and the teacher. Particular attention will be given to encouraging students to use an appropriate vocabulary.
Additional Information
In itinere learning will be checked through the discussion of numerical exercises conducted by both the teacher and the students.
Students with physical disabilities, Learning Disabilities or Special Education Needs can request specific services and tools via the Staff Sviluppo e Coordinamento Carriere e Servizi alle Studentesse e agli Studenti, consulting the University webpage: https://www.uniupo.it/en/services/services-students-physical-or-learning-disabilities Students with disabilities, learning disabilities or special education needs, once they have contacted the University Staff, can refer to the tutor in charge of the course to define the examination modalities, concerning academic aspects.
Assessment Methods
The final evaluation will be based on a written test and an oral discussion.
The written test will consist in the resolution of 3-4 numerical exercises similar to what discussed during the lessons and useful to understand the degree of knowledge and autonomy achieved by the student, in the solving of exercises.
The oral discussion will serve to determine the awareness of what has been done during the written test and to evaluate the degree of knowledge of the theoretical aspects and the ability to express them in an articulated manner.
To pass the test, the student must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic concepts and their applications to solve numerical exercises.
Excellence is achieved if the written test is perfect, proving that the student has reached a level of knowledge and skill appropriate throughout all the course program, and proving to know clearly all the arguments required during the oral test.
The level of difficulty corresponds to the program and the reference texts indicated.

Expected Learning Outcomes
- Knowledge and understanding: knowledge of concepts and classical physics in the fields that are covered by the course
- Applying knowledge and understanding: identify the laws that are relevant in a practical problem, identify the physical quantities and apply calculus based techniques to solve the problems
- Communication skills: discuss problems and concepts of classical physics at a specialistic level with appropriate scientific language
- Learning skills: reach a mastery of concepts and methods of classical physics that is deep enough to enable autonomous study of problems beyond what can be presented in the course.
