Acquisition of the basic concepts and knowledge of the sociology of migration; ability to read the contemporary migration phenomenon from a gender perspective.

Teaching will be delivered mainly through lectures, in which, however, the active participation of students is welcome and encouraged.

The examination will consist of a written test with open questions. The evaluation will consider: ability to elaborate and write a text using the appropriate terminology; knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts; ability to make connections between the various topics addressed; critical reasoning and argumentation.

1. Migration as an object of sociological study: definitions, basic concepts, and theoretical perspectives.
2. Immigration regulation, integration policies and citizenship.
3. The gender perspective to the study of migration: work, families and relationships, policies, and services.

By the end of the course, students will have acquired the fundamental concepts underlying the sociological perspective to the study of migration; they will be able to reconstruct the specificities of immigration in the Italian context; they will have the tools to observe migration from a gender perspective.
