The course presents the main methodological and regulatory references used to measure the amount of equivalent carbon dioxide emitted by an entity, as a comparative base also to define the CO2 credits exchanged on the carbon markets (or to establish the demand for carbon credits).
The course will also analyze the concept of "certification" and its legal implications, distinguishing the sphere of "voluntary" actions from mandatory obligations. International sources and obligations in this field will be analysed and taken into account.
In the end, the course will explore instruments available for implementing the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and being compliance with legal obligations in this regard.
Carbon credits will be distinguished between volunteers and not, and the relevant reference markets will be assessed (the so-called "carbon offset").
The measurement of the amount of "carbon dioxide equivalent" (that will not be released into the atmosphere) will be considered as a result of the development of projects under the Kyoto Protocol, mainly in the fields of renewable energy and biomass, as well as in tree plantations.
Finally, the course will introduce the concept of climate neutrality and will present an example of a certification scheme.

Written examination

1) main methodological and regulatory references used to measure the amount of equivalent carbon dioxide emitted by an organisation;
2) definition of CO2 credits traded on carbon markets (or to establish demand for carbon credits);
3) analysis of the concept of "certification" and its legal configuration;
4) distinction of the sphere of "voluntary" actions from that of legal obligations;
5) Examination of sources of CO2 trading and enforcement of international obligations in this respect; 6) Examination of instruments also volunteers - that companies have to implement in their production cycle the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and compliance with legal obligations in this regard.
7) distinction of credits between voluntary and compulsory, analysing the relevant reference markets and the possibilities of interaction with them by organisations (e.g. carbon offset);
8) presentation of case studies, including the measurement of the amount of equivalent carbon dioxide that will not be released into the atmosphere as a result of the development of projects under the Kyoto Protocol, mainly in the areas of renewable energy and biomass, as well as in tree plantations.
9) analysis of the concept of climate neutrality and presentation of an example of a certification scheme.
