Monographic Course: DUTIES AND RIGHTS. The course aims to reflect on the relationship between duties and rights in the history of constitutionalism, from antiquity to the present day, and within Italian Constitution.

The reference text is currently being published and is not yet available in bookshops. Several readings will be recommended within the course, which will be discussed in seminar form during the lectures (e.g.: Giuseppe Mazzini, Duties of Man; Simone Weil, The First Root. Prelude to a Declaration of the Duties of Man). Non-attending students should contact the lecturer for guidance on a personalised study path.

The training objective of the course is in-depth knowledge of the relationship between rights and duties in constitutional history and within the Italian constitution. Furthermore, it is the aim of the course to acquire the tools for written and oral presentation of a scientific paper.

It is a prerequisite for the Advanced Constitutional Law course to have taken and passed the examination in Constitutional Law (or Institutions of Public Law).

A part of the course includes frontal teaching; lessons, but always soliciting and stimulating the dialogue and the critical analysis ability of the students in the classroom. Having provided the necessary cognitive tools, in the other part of the course students become protagonists, putting the acquired skills to use. Attendance is strongly recommended.

Learning is verified by means of a written examination; the grade obtained is increased in the light of the writing and discussion of a scientific paper.

From the point of view of KNOWLEDGE, full knowledge of the subject of the course (the relationship between duties and rights in constitutional history and in the Italian Constitution) is expected; from the point of view of COMPETENCE, the ability to critically analyse the readings recommended by the lecturer; from the point of view of SKILLS, the ability to express one's knowledge through a written text; the ability to write a scientific report.
