The course aims to provide an in-depth, ‘advanced’ examination of certain highly topical labour law issues related to the so-called twin transition, environmental and digital.

At the end of the course, students will have an in-depth understanding of the principles of labour law as they relate to the objectives of the twin transition.

The course is organised into lectures and discussion and debate sessions. Attendance is not compulsory but is strongly recommended in order to gain a better understanding of the subject matter, including through classroom activities.

The examination consists of a written test lasting 45 minutes. Candidates will have to answer four ‘open’ questions in which they are asked to correctly and comprehensively reconstruct some of the institutes covered by the course and to correctly interpret and apply them. In particular, the aim is to test knowledge of the regulations, the ability to process and organise data and notions learned and the ability to apply the discipline in solving practical cases. Each answer is awarded between 0 and 7.5 points. The test is deemed passed if the overall mark is not less than 18 points.

Labour law and the so-called green transition: sustainable business; the so-called just transition; occupational safety and the environment; the Ilva case; new health and safety risks in the workplace. Labour law and the digital transition: Industry 5.0; work and artificial intelligence systems; potential and risks for Industry 5.0 Integration of gender issues: one lesson of the course will be dedicated to reconstructing the main profiles related to gender equality from a labour law perspective.

At the end of the course, students will have advanced knowledge and skills in labour law, with a focus on the specific topic of the twin transition. They will be able to navigate the complex interrelationships between the environment, business and work, and will be able to address complex issues related to digitalisation and Industry 5.0. Students will be able to correctly identify the sources of regulation (collective agreement or law) for individual institutions and interpret and apply them correctly, including with regard to the specific environmental and digital aspects covered by the course.
