The integrated course will provide students with the elements to: - understand the role of the forensic physician and the occupational doctor; - know the relevant legislation for carrying out the profession - know the obligations incumbent on health professionals, forensic physicians, occupational physicians.

In particular, the course will pay great attention to the doctor-patient relationship in order to help the student to achieve awareness of being a doctor and of the profound values of the doctor's professionalism. and the importance of placing at the center of the relationship not the disease, but the patients in their specificity as human beings, whatever their gender, their geographical origin or their socio-economic situation.
The course will also provide students with the fundamental notions of occupational medicine useful for the practice of the profession.

The aim is to provide the knowledge tools necessary for a correct approach to the application of the principles of forensic and occupational medicine in the field. In particular the student:
- will achieve awareness of being a doctor and of the profound values of the doctor's professionalism;
- will be led to reflect on the importance of placing at the center of the relationship not the disease, but patients in their specificity as human beings, whatever their gender, their geographical origin, their socio-economic situation;
- will have the ability to address and solve occupational medicine problems in daily practice according to the principles of evidence-based medicine.

During the lessons, students will be invited to reflect on medical-legal and occupational issues through open discussion

Oral exam if less than 15 students enrolled; written exam with more than 15 students enrolled (multiple choice quiz for forensic medicine and open questions for occupational medicine). The exam is aimed at assessing the knowledge and understanding of the course contents. The exam will focus on the entire program developed in class.

Elements of forensic medicine. Reporting to the Judicial Authority. Professional and official secrecy - Privacy. Informed consent in the health sector, the TSO, restraint. Knowledge of the laws of interest to the healthcare professional (law 40/2004, law 194/1978, legislation on the verification of death, the regulation of the Mortuary Police, the laws on transplants from cadavers and from living). Elements of traumatology. Elements of Thanatology. Personal identification. Elements of forensic toxicology. Migrants and medico-legal aspects. Biological damage. Social insurance Professional liability. Gender-based violence: general principles, epidemiology and healthcare management of victims of gender-based violence and related crimes. This in-depth study is aimed at 'gender mainstreaming'. Students will be invited to explore the topic individually by reading supplementary material and participating in subject-related meetings held at the university. The role of the Occupational Medicine in the Health and Safety system at the workplace - relevant legislation - the risk assesment and the role of the industrial hygienist - the diagnosis of the occupational diseases - medical screening and medical surveillance - the main occupational risk factors - the pneumoconiosis - the occupational diseases related to the chemical agents - the occupational diseases related to the noise and the vibrations - the carciongenesis at worplace - the principles of ergonomics - the bio-hazard for the health care workers - the work related stress

In order to achieve the knowledge and skills corresponding to the minimum level of sufficiency, the student is asked to demonstrate that: (KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS): - know and know how to apply the fundamental principles of forensic medicine, with particular attention to what is fundamental in the healthcare professional / patient relationship (informed consent, patient self-determination, TSO, professional and official secrecy); - know the crimes of interest to the health professional in order to be able to draw up the report for the Judicial Authority; - know and apply the methods for describing the lesions; - know and know how to apply the main laws of interest for the health professional (Law 194/1978; Law 40/2004, legislation on organ transplants from living and cadaveric, legislation on the determination of death); - know and know how to apply the principles of professional responsibility; - know the medico-legal problems relating to unaccompanied foreign minors; - know and know how to apply the fundamental elements for the management of victims of gender-based violence; - know the general principles of forensic genetics and forensic toxicology and their application in clinical activity. Knowledge of occupational medicine in its main aspects. Learning of the method of analysis and evaluation of a work environment. (TRANSVERSAL SKILLS) - be able to describe, in written and oral form, the injuries; - be able to compile a complaint or report for the judicial authority - know how to manage victims of gender-based violence and unaccompanied foreign minors from a health point of view; - know the rights and duties of the health profession. Ability to address and resolve occupational health problems in daily practice according to the principles of evidence-based medicine.
