Course Contents
The training program includes teaching at the patient's bed or as part of outpatient visits aimed at acquiring the required skills including the acquisition of some skills at using the most common medical devices (i.e. electrocardiograph, microscope, etc.)

Learning Outcomes
Development of a general expertise and an overall understanding of the management of hospitalized and outpatient patients belonging to a generalist or specialist ward. Understanding the role of histopathology in patient management
Prerequisites
As per curriculum. Knowledge and understanding of the elements acquired in the third year internship.
Teaching Methods
The internship is carried out with the support of tutors who guide students in the knowledge of the diagnostic-instrumental procedures necessary for the management of the patient, in an outpatient setting, in the ward, and in the laboratory structures of the pathology unit

Verification of clinical skills through direct observation by the tutor with attention to the execution of the procedures envisaged, and through guided discussion of the clinical cases observed in the ward and in the clinic
Detailed Syllabus
The training program includes teaching at the patient's bed or as part of outpatient visits aimed at acquiring the required skills including the acquisition of knowledge on the most commonly used medical devices (eg electrocardiograph, microscope, etc.)
Extended program:
1) General medicine: Good practices of the doctor-patient relationship (interview, report, information, clarity), both focused and complete objective examination. Problem-oriented medical record drafting. Communication of the essential elements of a case. Clinical ward meetings. ECG - technique of execution, interpretation. Peripheral blood sampling, Arterial blood gas analysis;
2) Pathological anatomy: autopsy findings, surgery diagnostics, examination of the operative piece. Preparation of histological, cytological and cytogenetic exams. Examination of cytogenetic and FISH histological cytological preparations;
3) Cardiology: Hearth physical examination; Instrumental diagnostics. The patient with AMI diagnosis and treatment;
4) Medical examination and placement of the patient in a specialist area. Patient history focused on problems of specialist interest Detecting objective signs of the most common diseases of specialist interest; diagnostic work-up for the patient affected by a medical pathology of specialist interest. Problem solving of clinical cases of specialist medical interest. Therapeutic education session for the specialist patient; medical-nursing collaboration in a specialist field. Clinical ward meetings. The specialist advice. Interdisciplinary consultations.
5) Surgery: Patient history and physical examination in the surgical field. The indication for surgery. Observation of surgical interventions. Inpatient and outpatient post-surgical follow-up.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Improvement and consolidation of the skills acquired in the third year. Acquisition of the general skills required by the frequency in internal medicine of the skills and the diagnostic-therapeutic approach typical of specialist medicines, of the specific characteristics of the diagnostic and therapeutic approach of the cardiological and surgical patient. Understanding the role of histopathology and cytology examinations.
