The course aims to provide general and specific knowledge on immunological and rheumatological diseases, in particular the most common and frequent ones, in order to provide the basis for suspecting the most common pathologies and starting the appropriate diagnostic pathway.

To develop the student's understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms that lead to functional alterations characteristic of various groups of diseases of the immune system and the musculoskeletal system; favor the acquisition of the main concepts of epidemiology, etiopathogenesis and physiopathology, clinical presentation (symptoms and signs), complications, laboratory and instrumental tests and rational bases of therapy necessary to approach the patient with disorders of the immune system or of the musculoskeletal system ( systematics of immunological and rheumatological diseases); in priming the mechanism of medical competence through which, starting from symptoms and/or groups of symptoms, from clinical examination and from alterations of biohumoral data, one progresses to the identification and reconstruction of the physiopathological mechanisms typical of many syndromes and diseases, allowing its recognition and clinical diagnosis; beginning the process of critical connection of the clinical elements common to different diseases, their recognition, their interrelationships, as well as the clinical study of those differences and diversities that distinguish the various morbid processes and form the basis of the method of differential diagnosis.

Written/computer-based exam with multiple-choice questions on the subjects that make up the integrated course and resolution of clinical scenarios.

Recalls on the normal functioning of the immune system. Laboratory evaluation methods of the immune system. Congenital and acquired immunodeficiencies. Hypersensitivity reactions. Autoimmunity. Connective tissue diseases (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Systemic Sclerosis; Dermatomyositis / Polymyositis; Sjogren's Syndrome). Recalls on the pathophysiology and clinical methodology of the Musculoskeletal system. Inflammatory joint diseases: Rheumatoid arthritis Spondyloarthritis (psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Reactive arthritis). Peripheral arthrosis and spondyloarthrosis; crystal-induced arthritis (gout and pseudogout); arthritis from infectious causes, acute articular rheumatism. Metabolic bone diseases (osteoporosis, Paget's disease of the bone). Vasculitis: classification and clinical approach.

At the end of the course the student must be able to understand the pathophysiological and immunopathological mechanisms of the most common immunological and rheumatological diseases and to be able to distinguish the most frequent clinical pictures and to set a diagnostic path of confirmation or preliminary exclusion.
