Learning Outcomes
The course aims to convey fundamental concepts of General Physics, i.e. physical quantities and unity of measurements, basics of mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermology and electricity, diffusion in gas and solutions, with corresponding medical applications.
Prerequisites
Basic mathematics. Skills in differential computation are not required.
Teaching Methods
Lectures with projection of power point slides. Physics exercises executed in real time displayed on a whiteboard.Videoconference link to peripheral sites. .
Additional Information
8 hours of physics exercises are in addition to the course.

Introduction to physical quantities and the corresponding units of measurement. Definition of physical quantity, fundamental physical quantities and derived physical quantities; the International System of Units, small and large units with prefixes. Biomechanics. Mass and density. Basics of kinematics: space, time, velocity and acceleration. Uniform motion in a straight line. Uniformly accelerated motion in a straight line, Falling objects. Inertia and first Newton law. Weight and gravitational force. Work by a force. Energy. Power. Thermology. Temperature and temperature scales. Thermal balance. Thermometer. Heat and energy. Metabolism. Heat production by the human body. Calorie power. Thermal regulation. Metabolic power and muscular yield. Fluid mechanics. Density and pressure. Pascal principle. Hydrostatic pressure and relative applications: atmospheric pressure, gravity force in blood vessels, intravenous drip. Ideal fluid motion: flow rate, continuity principle.
