Course Contents
History of radiotherapy.
Radiobiology:
biologic basis of radiation oncology, interaction of ionizing radiation with biologic materials. Measure units, radiosensibility and radioresistance, does rate and dose fractionation effects in radiotherapy.
Radioprotection:
Natural and artificial radiation exposition. Whole body irradiation. Early and late effects in normal tissues.
Radiotherapy techniques:
Conformal therapy, stereotactic irradiation, brachytherapy, intraoperative radiotherapy. Treatment planning, treatment delivery. Overview of radiotherapy indications and results.
Radiotherapy:
Natural history, staging and treatment of breast, uterine, lung, rectal, canal anal, prostate and head&neck cancers.
Adverse normal tissue effects:
Early and late normal tissue effects. Prevention and treatment. Rule of nurses.

Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to teach a general overview of:
the scientific foundations of radiation oncology (radiobiology and physics),
techniques and modalities for the different disease sites,
the early and late normal tissue effects with a particular attention for prevention and treatment and the rule of nurses

Students needs to know basis of physics, biology, phisiology and pathology

Written exam on the topics discussed during the lessons. 14 question with 4 multiple answer, only one is correct.
