Assessment Methods
The exam consists of a written test (multiple choice and two open-ended questions) on the topics presented during the course. Each of the three exercises is worth 10 points; the test is considered passed if the total score is at least 18 points. Multiple-choice questions require knowledge of the theoretical topics covered during the course. Open-ended questions require understanding and comprehension of the fundamental concepts, as well as the ability to observe and recognize the most important relational dynamics, identifying the most appropriate behavioral modalities. Concrete examples drawn from practical hospital experience will be requested.
Detailed Syllabus
- Introduction to general psychology (perception, attention, memory, learning, language, motivation, emotions)
- communication (verbal, non-verbal, pragmatics of communication, active listening, empathy, communication errors)
- the helping relationship (fears of the patient, motivation, communication as a tool)
- Caring and taking care (biopsychosocial model)
- disease, pain and burnout (stress, reactions to diagnosis, defense mechanisms, chronic pain, total pain, burnout syndrome)
Expected Learning Outcomes
To demonstrate that he has assimilated the basic notions of General Psychology, learned during the lessons, in an adequate way to deal effectively with subsequent courses
