To know the main traumatic pathologies that affect the locomotor system and the corresponding rehabilitative issues.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of Hystology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pathology and Radiology.
Teaching Methods
Frontal lessons with slide presentation.
Additional Information
The course is associated to a clinical ward internship.
Assessment Methods
Written examination with multiple choice quizzes that may concern all the topics included in the educational program with a prevalent focus on the topics covered in the lectures.
The number of correct answers will contribute to formulating the mark out of thirty proposed, resulting from the final evaluation shared by the teachers of the individual modules.
Detailed Syllabus
General principles of skeletal trauma: basic knowledge on fractures (classification, bone repair processes, principles of treatment, complications), growth plate fractures, the polytrauma patient. Fractures: humerus, wrist, pelvis, hip, leg, vertebrae. Stress fractures. Traumatic injuries of the joints (shoulder, knee, ankle). Biomaterials in Traumatology of the skeleton.
Expected Learning Outcomes
Knowledge of the main traumatic injuries of the locomotor system, ability in understanding clinical-functional findings, instrumental exams and medical prescriptions, in order to set up and manage an adequate rehabilitation program.
