Basic materials and innovative approaches for improving the biocompatibility of implants.
Active ingredients of toothpastes and mouthwashes, professional disinfectants.
Legislation of biomedical devices.
Learning Outcomes
To know the most suitable materials and techniques for the treatment of patients with different pathologies. To set up a proper clinical plan to optimize home practice and improve oral hygiene. To know the legislation of biomedical materials.
To know the new generation technologies and materials.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge in biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics and anatomy.

Power point slides presentations (free available for students on DIR).

Written open-ended exam.
Detailed Syllabus
-Active ingredients of mouthwashes and toothpastes (chx, essential oils, fluoride)
- Classification, legislation (CE, ISO standards) and surface modifications of traditional (titanium, steel) and innovative (bioglasses, nanostructured) implantable materials
- High-tech technologies in bone implantology (PRP, PRF, stem cells) and innovative materials (metal sponges, biomimetic materials).
- Plaque detectors (monotonal, bitonal and tritonal) principles and application, active principles of professional disinfectants for instrumentation, surfaces and implantable materials (chx, hypochlorite, peroxide, alcohols, phenols).
Expected Learning Outcomes
Correct learning of basic principles guiding instrumentation and clinical approach for the treatment of patients with different disease degree. Correct selection of materials for an optimal clinical practice. Correct presonal approach with the patients aimed to guide and improve the domestic practice for a good oral health.
