The Specialised Languages and English Translation class offers students the opportunity to develop specific skills in translating specialised texts from English to Italian. Through theoretical and practical reflection tools, students will acquire a foundational knowledge of translation principles and the practical strategies required to approach specialised texts. They will be exposed to a variety of texts from fields such as heritage and tourism, enabling them to understand specific terminology and writing styles in each field. Through practical translation and revision exercises, students will apply their acquired knowledge and refine their language and translation skills. They will also be introduced to technology tools that support translation which will help improve the efficiency and consistency of their translations.

Students must demonstrate a solid command of the English language, at least at a B2 level, with a particular emphasis on comprehension and written expression. As a translation course from English to Italian, proficiency in the Italian language is also required.

The course is based on a combination of lectures, practical exercises, case studies, discussions, technology integration, and feedback mechanisms, ensuring an immersive and comprehensive learning experience.

The final assessment of the exam is based on two equally weighted components: the specialised translation project and its oral presentation, each contributing 50% to the overall grade. The written project is evaluated considering both the quality of the translation — with particular attention to accuracy in relation to the source text, appropriate use of specialist terminology, and stylistic consistency — and the analysis of the translation process, which includes identifying the challenges encountered, justifying the choices made, documenting the sources used, and developing a terminological glossary. The oral presentation, which completes the assessment, focuses on the student's ability to clearly explain their translation choices, demonstrating a solid command of sector-specific terminology and tools used, as well as general communication skills, including the effectiveness of their delivery, the ability to handle questions and objections, time management, and the appropriate use of multimedia aids.

The course aims to foster the development of translation skills from English to Italian, specifically focusing on technical-scientific texts. At the same time, it aims to consolidate and expand students' linguistic proficiency by utilising available technological tools to support translation, terminology research, and general information acquisition.
