The course will consist in a series of continuing workshops aimed at the collective writing, staging and producing of a play in Italian. The project of 2025-2026 will be based on an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Midsummernight’s Dream in collaboration with Prof. Pustianaz and the Tillit English theatre group, aimed at the staging of a bilingual Italian-English theatre production. A series of activities and exercises will be proposed on improvisation, dramatic techniques, voice, body, posture, spatialisation, gesture, as well as elements of stage- and actors-direction. On the other hand, and depending on the profile of the students enrolled, the course intends to provide a series of techniques and tools useful as an introduction to FL teaching and learning performative methods, particularly for teachers-to-be, and elements of multicultural teaching through performative activities.

- Improving Italian language skills (for Italian L2 or FL students) through orality and performativity of the language (with attention to proxemic and pragmatic aspects). - Working on the language (also on written aspects) with a creative and task-oriented approach (writing a performative text). - Providing a basic set of dramaturgical and staging techniques. - (Depending on the audience) To illustrate and test a number of basic techniques of performative methods in teaching and learning FL and intercultural didactics through performance adressed to future teachers. - Working in class groups towards a common goal.

None but a strong motivation. The reading of Shakespeare’s play before the beginning of the workshop is strongly recommended.

Practical performative activities. Elements of theory derived from observation and practice.

Evaluation during the semester and through a final public performance. Class work, organisation of and participation in the final performance, constant commitment and group solidarity will be the parameters taken into account for the obtention of ECTS. A workshop diary will also be required. It has to be written according to the explanations which will be given in class.

The workshop aims to familiarise students with the different aspects of theatre work, on the text, on forms of writing and dramaturgy, on the body, on the voice, on creativity, on the more technical aspects of artistic staging, through a series of exercises and activities through which we will move from the theatrical idea to staging process. In parallel, we will work on oral and written language expression techniques in creative and communicative contexts, on the pragmatic and proxemic aspects of expression. (Depending on the audience) Through practice and reflection, the future teachers will experience a range of techniques of performative FL teaching and learning, useful for the renewal of inclusive pedagogical practices centred on the learner’s needs and on multiculturalism from a performative perspective.

- Experiencing how to work in group forms in ways that simulate the structure of a theatre company. - Working creatively on the Italian language in order to construct a performance from a theatrical idea. - Practising brainstorming, artistic co-construction, collective organisation. - Constructing, staging, performing a play in public At a first level, in terms of “knowledge and understanding,” the achievement of educational objectives will be based on indicators pertaining to participation in activities carried out in class and outside the classroom, student motivation and the ability to step out of their “comfort zone.” In terms of “ability to apply knowledge and understanding,” it will be observed how this aptitude is put to good use in group work and the implementation of the final project. At a more advanced level, in terms of “knowledge and understanding,” the achievement of the training objectives will be based on indicators inherent in the student's ability to practice remediation techniques on the level of both their individual ability and that of the group dynamic. In terms of “ability to apply knowledge and understanding,” it will be observed how this aptitude is put to use in the implementation of the final project.
