Social history, and introduction to European history from 1945 to 2025.

The course consists of 2 modules: A) “Modern history 2° level” (=“Social history”, prof. Tigrino) and B) “Social and Economic History of Europe” (=”Contemporary history 2° level”, prof. Bellezza). Two programmes are foreseen for attending and non-attending students.

Knowledge of the main features of early modern, modern and contemporary history is required.

Both modules include lectures. The first module also includes parts in form of a seminar with short oral reports on the methodology and topics of the course. Second module will be carried out entirely in English.

Students are advised to register on DIR (Didattica In Rete), where notices and communications will be posted, and where will be disposable some materials of the lectures. The overall assessment of the examination could take into account the student's ability to improve their ability to answer questions and their general ability to organise their work.

The first module will pertains the social history, and specifically it will ill focus upon gender, sexuality violence and social control in the early modern and modern period, also with interdisciplinary comparison. Outline of the lectures: • Social history and the history of modern society. • Historiography and the issues of social, economic, political and cultural history. • Gender, sexuality, violence and social control in the modern and contemporary history: historiographical debate. • Gender, sexuality, violence and social control in the modern and contemporary history: case-studies. Gender issues: the course is specifically dedicated to the theme of gender in history. For the second module The lessons will take place according to the following outline: - Lesson 1: Introduction to the course and practical information. Europe at the end of the Second World War. - Lesson 2: The emergence of the Cold War 1947-1953. - Lesson 3: The European Project from Jean Monnet to De Gaulle. - Lesson 4: The economic boom of the 1950s-1960s. - Lesson 5: A Brief global history of the welfare state. - Lesson 6: The Revolutionary 1960s. - Lesson 7: A Turning Point: The Crises of the 1970s. - Lesson 8: The EEC from The Hague Conference to the Delors Commission. - Lesson 9: Towards the Velvet Revolutions. - Lesson 10: Old and New Rivalries. - Lesson 11: The European Union from Maastricht to Covid. - Lesson 12: The Neoliberalist Transition. - Lesson 13: The Two Waves of Neoliberalism. - Lesson 14: The 2008 Crisis. - Lesson 15: The Russian Empire versus the Ukrainian Nation.
