Spanish Linguistics (LM 37) and Master's Degree in Spanish Language

The course aims to deepen skills in Spanish linguistics and to refine the use of the Spanish language for professional and academic purposes, particularly in the linguistic-literary field (LM 37). From the basic level of simple knowledge and application of specific terminology, analytical tools and notions acquired in class, in the analysis of texts of different natures; up to the fully conscious knowledge and application of the methods and tools offered, on different text types. Possess higher level language competence (C1.2).

An adequate knowledge of the Spanish Language is required (higher level)

Lectures, seminar lectures with analysis of examples; the course also includes the preparation of example materials on DIR
Language exercises and workshops, individual study. The course is based on the material contained in the texts listed in the bibliography and extra material distributed in class or uploaded onto the DIR platform. Other activities will be carried out in class to reinforce and consolidate language skills in order to achieve the course objectives. Students will be constantly invited to work on error, as a source of enrichment in language learning, and on language self-awareness. There will be activities with discussion of errors, presentation of exemplary cases.

Every year, a Vademécum is published on all the Dir pages of Spanish Language and Linguistics, providing detailed information on exams, appeals, DSA and compensatory measures, Erasmus, etc. It is compulsory reading for all students.

Written and oral tests for the individual modules. As this is an examination that closely integrates the two partial modules, both of which are the responsibility of the teacher: average between the two parts. It is in any case necessary to obtain at least 18/30 in both parts.
M37 Written exam (2 hrs. 1/2): 1) two theoretical questions designed to assess the student's ability to connect theoretical data; 2) an Italian version to be critically analyzed from the linguistic and stylistic phenomena involved. + Exercises and in-class discussion (with self-assessment), on the materials prepared .
Evidence with the following will be evaluated as excellent: an organic and in-depth view of the topics covered in the course; developed analytical and synthesis skills; excellent command of specific vocabulary and linguistic concepts; theoretical elaboration skills through the rich use of relevant examples. Fair evidence: only sometimes mechanical knowledge of the subject; appropriate and correct language; the ability to analyze and synthesize; good use of exemplification in relation to theoretical exposition. Sufficient evidence: basic knowledge of the syllabus (notions and method), often expounded in mnemonic form, but with an awareness of the methodology and data acquired; basic and correct use of terminology; presentation of appropriate examples within the scope of the subject matter. Insufficient evidence (1 at least of these traits): major instructional gaps; mislearning of notions/concepts or methodology; inappropriate language; the pure reproduction/listing of notions or definitions, lacking the required conceptual connections; lack of orientation within the topic examined; scarcity, absence or incorrect use of examples.
Foreign language practice: two writings: 1) language composition (3h) and 2) Italian-Spanish translation (3h), on advanced level expressive skills. To pass the written part, one must get at least 18/30 in both parts-if not, one will retake the entire written part in a later appeal. Oral part: interview to assess comprehension/expression skills in language, according to the predetermined level, including from compulsory readings. A minimum grade of 18/30 in both the written and the oral will be required to pass the exam. The final grade will be given by the average between the two parts. A written test that presents: lexical richness, morphosyntactic variety and accuracy, and grammatical correctness, according to the level indicated, will be considered adequate. An oral test will be considered adequate in which the candidate can conduct a rich and fluent conversation on diverse and in-depth topics (including from readings/viewings), and exhibits, in addition to mastery of grammar, control of various expressive aspects of the language (non-standard registers and varieties, style, pragmatic aspects). The course combines the study (from a linguistic perspective) of the transmission of Hispanic texts and the problem of their philological reconstruction with the refinement of instrumental language skills (language registers and non-standard varieties, idiomatic expressions and collocations, modismos and refranes), with particular attention to composition in Spanish and translation. .
