Basic concepts and theoretical perspectives of the sociology of migration; migration policies; migration from a gender perspective.

Teaching will be delivered in a blended mode: the first part of the course will take place in face-to-face mode, while the second part will have a seminar format in which students will be invited to present short papers in the classroom on topics and texts agreed upon with the lecturer.

Students with disabilities, DSA, BES, once they have made contact with the University Staff, can contact the teacher in charge of the course in relation to the declination of the examination methods, with regard to teaching aspects.

The examination will consist of a written test with open questions. The evaluation will consider: ability to elaborate and write a text using the appropriate terminology; knowledge and understanding of the fundamental concepts; ability to make connections between the various topics addressed; critical reasoning and argumentation.
For students who have attended and participated in the seminar part of the course, up to 3 bonus points will be added to their final examination grade. Bonus points do not count towards the pass mark.

1. Migration as an object of sociological study: definitions, basic concepts, and theoretical perspectives.
2. Migration policies, integration and citizenship.
3. The gender perspective to the study of migration.
4. Thematic insights: gender and the labour market; gender relations in the family; families and services; second generations; migration and ageing.

By the end of the course, students will have acquired the fundamental concepts underlying the sociological perspective to the study of migration; they will be able to look critically at migration policies and the concepts of integration and citizenship; they will have the tools to observe migration from a gender perspective.
