Course Contents
Definition of well-being and addiction. Physiological and pathological bases.
Most frequent addictions:
Epidemiology: prevalence, trends, European drug report
Health effects: overdoses etc. Epidemic of the 90s, US epidemic of 2020
Risk factors and determinants:
Treatments: substitutive, contrasting, for OVD, therapeutic communities, psychosocial
Prevention: Action on risk factors
NHS services to support and relations with them

Learning Outcomes
To understand the complexity of the concept of well-being, to design a tool for detecting well-being in a company, to design and to conduct a survey aimed at describing well-being in a company.
Understanding the complexity of the relationship between well-being and one's substances. Understanding the main risk factors of substance use. To identify the main risks related to substance use. To select interventions to prevent or combat the use of substances, in coordination with the services of the National Health System.

Teaching Methods
The course will consist of lectures, exercises relating to research and critical analysis of relevant documentation and group work for the design of surveys and interventions
Assessment Methods
Multiple-choice questionnaires, based on scenario analysis or activity science reports. Approximately, there are 8 questions for each credit, which may however vary with the variation of their complexity.

Definition of well-being and addiction. Physiological and pathological bases.

- behaviors (gambling, online games)
Epidemiology: prevalence, trends, European drug report EMCDDA
Health effects: overdoses etc. Epidemic of the 90s, US epidemic now
Risk factors and determinants:
- psychological discomfort, stress and trauma
- character traits
- social pressure, normative beliefs (including consumption regulation)
- availability (legislation, legal/illegal market, sales regulation)
- knowledge

Expected Learning Outcomes
The well-being of a company's staff, including substance use, is an indicator of how well a company is functioning. The student who follows the course will be able to include the measurement of staff well-being in the context of his projects, and will also be able to identify which are the best tools to prevent the use of substances in the workplace
